Instructions for Uploading and Creating a Web Page in your GEMAIR Personal Web Space
Connecting to your GEMAIR web space via FTP:
To use the built in FTP client in your browser, simply enter the FTP address as a URL in the format: ftp://ftp.gemair.com
You will then be prompted for a username and password for security reasons. Simply enter your GEMAIR E-Mail ID (without the "P") and your E-Mail Password. This restricts who is able to log in to your GEMAIR web space and make changes to your web site and to other stored files.
You have now successfully connected to your GEMAIR web space via FTP:
Uploading your files to your GEMAIR web space via FTP:
The screen will now display the contents or your "home" directory on GEMAIR.
We are only concerned with the "www" directory, which is where all of your web site files will be stored. Double click on this "www" folder to open it and display the contents. NOTE: The "index.htm" file will not be included in your directory until you upload it as shown below.
Now, you will need to transfer your new web page files to the "www" directory so that they are visible to the world, which is the process known as "uploading". For instructions on how to create a sample web page, click here. The simplest way to do this is to drag and drop them from Windows Explorer (shown in the right-hand window below) into the open Internet Explorer directory (shown in the left-hand window below). To do this, simply open Windows Explorer, and navigate to the local folder where your files are stored (NOTE: this is simplest to do by resizing both the Internet Explorer window and the Windows Explorer window so that both are visible at once)..
Next, drag the selected files into the open Internet Explorer window, which will copy them up to your GEMAIR server space.
When the copying is finished, the files will appear in your GEMAIR web space as shown below:
Congratulations, you have now uploaded your web site files, and your web site should now be visible to the world.
Viewing your new GEMAIR web page:
Now that you have created your web site, and have uploaded the files, you will want to be able to tell the world how to see them. Each GEMAIR account has its own unique URL (which is just internet-speak for "address"). This address is different for each GEMAIR account, and is based on your username. Each address takes the form of http://www.gemair.com/~[username] where [username] is your GEMAIR E-Mail ID, and does not use the "P" prefix..
For instance, if your GEMAIR username is "jdoe", your web address would be http://www.gemair.com/~jdoe.
To see an example of the sample html file displayed in a GEMAIR web space, go to: http://www.gemair.com/~webtest
Congratulations, you now have a web site! Now, the sky's the limit on what you can do with your site! Tutorials are available all over the web on how to create various web pages and web sites, and also remember to check back with us, as we will periodically be posting additional web tutorials.
